Net Zero Carbon & Decarbonization: Certification Programs

6 Month Certification in Net Zero Carbon Management

Gain practical skills in carbon accounting and net-zero planning to support early-stage climate initiatives within organizations.

This 6-month certification lays the foundation of corporate carbon management and net-zero strategy. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of greenhouse gas accounting and mitigation, learning to apply the GHG Protocol and other standards to measure emissions across Scope 1, 2, and 3. Coursework emphasizes applied learning: students work through simulations and case projects to conduct carbon footprint analyses and propose reduction strategies. Core modules cover carbon accounting tools, emissions baselining, and the science of net-zero targets. For example, we study the Science Based Targets initiative’s Net-Zero Standard (the world’s only science-aligned framework for corporate net-zero goals), ensuring participants understand how to set credible, 1.5°C-aligned targets. By course end, graduates can integrate basic carbon measurement and reduction planning into business decision-making, preparing them to help their organizations develop viable net-zero roadmaps.

Key Components: Carbon accounting and GHG inventory methods; fundamentals of net-zero strategy and mitigation levers; use of climate standards (e.g. GHG Protocol, SBTi); hands-on projects (e.g. calculating a company’s emissions footprint, designing a reduction plan); and case discussions on implementing net-zero policies in industry.

Target Outcomes: Students complete the course able to evaluate a corporation’s carbon emissions profile, apply internationally recognized carbon accounting protocols, and formulate a preliminary net-zero strategy. They will have practical experience with applied scenarios (for instance, determining cost-effective emission reduction projects) and a clear understanding of the business case for carbon management (as documented by the IEA and industry studies).

1 Year Executive Certification in Strategic Carbon Management

Develop advanced strategies for decarbonization, climate risk management, and sustainability integration in executive decision-making.

The 1-year Executive Certification builds on foundational skills to address the strategic dimensions of carbon management in leadership roles. This advanced program covers decarbonization frameworks, climate policy, and corporate risk management in depth. Executives explore science-based target-setting and decarbonization roadmaps (e.g. learning how the Science-Based Targets initiative’s Net-Zero Standard guides ambitious climate commitments). The curriculum introduces strategic planning tools for net-zero transition, including scenario analysis and modeling to evaluate future carbon constraints. Importantly, we cover climate risk management: participants study frameworks like the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), which emphasizes that companies face both transition risks and physical climate risks that can materially affect their operations and balance sheets. Students learn to integrate these climate risks into enterprise risk governance and decision-support tools.

Key Components: Advanced carbon strategy and policy (including carbon pricing, regulatory trends, and global frameworks); Science-Based Targets and international standards for corporate net-zero; TCFD and climate-related risk assessment; strategic tools for executive decision-making (e.g. integrated reporting, lifecycle analysis, scenario planning). The course combines lectures, strategic case studies, and simulations (such as board-level decarbonization planning exercises) to reinforce learning.

Target Outcomes: Graduates will be able to craft and advise on comprehensive decarbonization strategies for their organizations. They will know how to set and justify science-based emission targets, use carbon accounting to inform long-term planning, and apply advanced decision-making tools to manage climate-related risks. In essence, participants emerge prepared to guide their companies’ transition to a low-carbon economy, ensuring sustainability is integrated into corporate strategy and governance.

2 Year Certification in Net Zero Industry Corporate Leader

Lead enterprise-wide net-zero transitions through innovation, policy alignment, and sustainable leadership.

The 2-year Certification is a comprehensive leadership program designed to develop visionary climate change agents at the highest levels of industry. It emphasizes leadership development and whole-system transformation skills needed for net-zero corporate turnaround. Participants study innovation management (e.g. adopting new low-carbon technologies and circular economy models) alongside global policy and standards. We analyze international frameworks (such as the emerging ISO Net-Zero guidelines) that are set to standardize and verify corporate net-zero commitments. The curriculum also covers the latest policy drivers and regulatory approaches (including how global agreements and standards will shape future industry requirements) – for example, students learn that governments increasingly draw on consensus international standards when crafting climate regulations.

Key Components: Corporate leadership and change management for sustainability (training boards and executives to lead climate initiatives, as highlighted by WBCSD); innovation and technology trends (e.g. renewable energy, low-carbon manufacturing, carbon removal); policy and governance (global climate agreements, ESG reporting standards, international net-zero criteria); organizational transformation (using frameworks like McKinsey’s 7-S and ADKAR to manage cultural and process change).

Target Outcomes: Graduates will be equipped to serve as net-zero champions in industry – capable of designing and executing enterprise-wide sustainability transformations. They learn to align innovation and investment with climate goals, translate high-level net-zero commitments into business plans, and foster a culture of accountability. Upon completion, participants will be fluent in global standards and policies for net-zero (able to benchmark their company against best practices) and skilled in governance structures for sustainable change. In short, they emerge ready to lead their organizations into the net-zero economy by driving credible, innovation-led strategies that reconcile profitability with environmental stewardship.

Strategic Learning Pathways for Climate Leadership

NORMI’s Programs for Business School equip executives and sustainability professionals with the expertise to lead their organizations toward a low-carbon future. These intensive courses address the urgent global push for net-zero transitions (many companies have now pledged to reach net-zero by 2050 under the Paris Agreement). Participants learn how to integrate carbon accounting, decarbonization frameworks, and sustainability principles into corporate strategy, thereby enhancing resilience and competitive advantage. Research shows that firms with comprehensive sustainability and ESG strategies often achieve better financial performance, innovation and risk management outcomes. Our programs build on this evidence, combining theory with applied learning (case studies and projects) so leaders can convert climate policy and science into practical business solutions.

Program Overview
